The Philippines is one of the countries with the highest risk of natural disasters struck, researchers said on Thursday.
Ranked World Risk Index 2016 171 countries according to how visible is weak and these natural hazards, including earthquakes, floods and storms.
The disaster occurs when swallowed extreme natural events the ability of people to protect themselves, the researchers said in the report.
The weak economy and social factors are some of the reasons that hardly keep safe countries of their population, according to the report, cited the Solomon Islands (ranked 6th), Papua New Guinea (10th) and Guinea Bissau (15th) are also exposed to excessive risks.
Among the reasons so people are becoming more vulnerable to disasters are: poverty, living in slums, limited medical services and clean water, corruption, and weak law enforcement.
Here are some facts from the index and the accompanying World Risk Report, produced by the United Nations University, the University of Stuttgart and Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft, an alliance of German aid agencies:
• The Vanuatu the country with the highest risk of disaster, followed by Tonga, the Philippines, Guatemala and Bangladesh.
• The five countries with the lowest risk of disaster Qatar, Malta, Saudi Arabia, Barbados and Grenada.
